Training
We have the resources to help you find the place to gain new skills or improve on those you have to make you a better candidate for the job you want. In some cases, we may be able to help you find resources to get the training you need. Some services are subject to eligibility requirements. If you have been laid off from a job or are a member of a family with limited income, you might be eligible for tuition assistance and other skill-development services.
Some possible options include:
- Career and personal counseling to provide support and guidance;
- Skill training provides classroom or vocational instruction through an education agency;
- Assessment of skills, needs and employment goals;
- On-the-Job Training is a 50% wage reimbursement to the employer for training the individual in a job, and
- Assistance with basic educational skills or obtaining a General Equivalency Diploma.
The One-Stop Career Centers empower workers to access education and skills training needed to take advantage of career oppportunities through Individual Training Accounts (ITAs) and other training services. However, for One-Stop Career Center customers whose training needs cannot be met through ITAs, because of ineligibility, limited resources through the Workforce Investment Act or other reasons, two federal tax credit programs, the Hope Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit, may help offset the costs of higher education for customers by reducing the amount of income tax owed.
Both credits apply to qualified education expenses of an individual tax filer, the filer’s spouse and the filer’s dependents. To qualify the taxpayer must meet modified adjusted gross income limits, education enrollment status and other requirements.
The IRS can provide more information about the Hope Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit.
