More summer jobs funded for local youth
June 22nd, 2010
Building on the success of the 2009 summer jobs initiative, as well as this summer’s State Parks Youth Corps, Southwest Missouri now has 75 more slots for youth in high-demand summer opportunities. The Missouri Summer Jobs Program provides young Missourians on-the-job training and work experience with top-notch employers across the Sh0w-Me state.
The Missouri Summer Jobs Program connects youth with paid internships and work experience with local employers. Youth also get ongoing guidance and support from professional career counselors at several convenient spots across Southwest Missouri.
Businesses that participated in last summer’s historic Next-Generation Jobs Team helped prepare thousands of Missouri youth for careers of the 21st century. This same opportunity is available for 2010 to local employers. The program will once again be able to pay the youths’ wages and workers’ compensation. Three Business Representatives are housed in Joplin and can consult employers throughout the seven-county region on this opportunity.
The Missouri Summer Jobs Program is made possible by an expedited federal grant to the Missouri Division of Workforce Development and its fourteen local Workforce Investment Boards.
